Turkey, others to press for UN probe into Khashoggi killing

Turkey and a number of other countries will soon submit a formal request for the establishment of a U.N. committee to investigate the killing of Saudi journalist Jamal Khashoggi, the Turkish foreign minister said Friday.

Mevlut Cavusoglu’s comment came a day after U.N. human rights expert Agnes Callamard said Saudi Arabia had undermined Turkey’s efforts to investigate the death, which she described as a "brutal and premeditated killing."

Cavusoglu told reporters in Istanbul: "The (U.N.) secretary general or the human rights commissioner can realize the establishment of a committee to shed light on the truth."
